I'm a first year student who is following BA degree. Do I have a chance to follow Computer Studies as a main subject?

Yes. Our department is offering Computer Studies(COST) as a subject for the Faulty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Humanities. You have to select two main subjects from one faculty i.e either from social sciences or humanities. And as the third subject you can follow COST. We are facilitating about 50 students to follow COST as a main subject. But if more than 50 students are requested to follow COST, then we will conduct an aptitude test and select the students. Aptitude test will be based on basic concepts of Information Technology.

I'm following STAT as one of my major subjects. I would like to register for the PRPL course. What is the process of it?

You have to go for a period of six weeks on an industrial training in a company which is relevant to desired subject. If you are interested on Statistics, you have to go for a training in the field of statistics. You have to inform it to the Department of Statistics & Computer Science. You have to maintin a daily diary which is monitored by a supervisor from the company and you have to submit it along with a report for the evaluation purpose. You have to face for a final presentation as well to illustrate what you have done during the six weeks. You have to go for this training during the vacation which you reveive after 2nd year, 2nd semester examination. When you are registering for the 3rd year semester 1, then you have to register for the PRPL course unit as well.

How many students are selected per batch to follow Statistics and Computer Science Honours degrees?

Currently we are providing around 10 - 15 placements for the Statistics and Computer Science Honours degree programs.

Is it compulsory to follow STAT 11514 for a student who has selected for Computer Science Honours degree?

If you have not followed STAT 11514 and STAT 11521 in Level I (1st year) and still if you have selected for the Computer Science Honours degree, then it is compulsory for you to follow those two subjects during the semester 1 of your 3rd year.
