A New Chapter in Statistical Excellence: Inaugural Session of MSc in Statistics

The inaugural session of Batch 05 of the Master of Science in Statistics programme and Batch 03 of the Master of Statistics programme was successfully held on 17th May 2026 at 9.00 a.m. at the IM Conference Room (A5 202), Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya.

The ceremony commenced with the University Anthem, followed by a welcome address delivered by Ms. Tharuni Kavishka. The Chief Guest, Prof. W. A. P. J. Premaratne, Dean of the Faculty of Science, delivered the keynote address. This was followed by an inspiring address by Prof. N.V. Chandrasekara, Head of the Department of Statistics and Computer Science, who shared valuable insights and encouragement with the newly enrolled students.

The programme featured inspiring alumni talks by Ms. Sewwandi Ubeysinghe, Ms. Achini Dayarathna, and Ms. Jayani Warnakula, who shared their academic and professional experiences with the incoming students.

The final orientation session, conducted by Prof. D. D. M. Jayasundara, introduced the programme curriculum, course structure, and important academic and administrative guidelines. The event concluded with the National Anthem, marking the beginning of a rewarding postgraduate journey for the new cohorts.
