Department of Statistics & Computer Science Participates in Faculty of Science Open Day 2025
The Faculty of Science of the University of Kelaniya officially launched its Open Day 2025 with an opening ceremony held on 16th May 2025 at the Faculty Lobby. Organized under the theme “Discover, Explore, Innovate, and Design Your Future at the Faculty of Science,” the two-day programme aimed to provide prospective students with valuable insights into university-level scientific education and career pathways.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Dhammika Weerasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Technology; and Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar of the University, along with academic staff, students, and visitors. In her address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of outreach initiatives in nurturing future scientists and strengthening the university’s role in national development.
The Department of Statistics & Computer Science actively participated in the Open Day by showcasing its academic programmes, research areas, and career opportunities through interactive displays and information sessions. Academic staff and students of the department engaged with visiting school students, parents, and teachers, providing guidance on study pathways, applications of statistics and computer science, and emerging industry trends.
The Open Day, held on 16th and 17th May 2025, featured laboratory visits, demonstrations, and student interactions across multiple disciplines. The participation of the Department of Statistics & Computer Science reflected its commitment to academic excellence, student engagement, and promoting awareness of data-driven and computational sciences among future undergraduates.
