Stat Bee 2.0 : Fostering the Next Generation of Statisticians
The Department of Statistics and Computer Science successfully launched Stat Bee 2.0, an inter-year academic competition aimed at fostering analytical thinking and strengthening core statistical concepts among undergraduate students. Organized by the Statistics & Computer Science Students’ Association, the event embodies the theme “Fostering the Next Generation of Statisticians” and has drawn enthusiastic participation from students across Year 01 and Year 02.
The competition commenced with the Starters Round (Year 01), held on 29th October 2025 at A11 201. This opening round set the tone for Stat Bee 2.0, challenging first-year students with fundamental yet thought-provoking problems designed to test their logical reasoning and conceptual clarity. The event created a lively and intellectually stimulating environment, encouraging students to engage confidently with statistics beyond the classroom.
Following this, the Wizards Round took place on 11th November 2025 at A7 406, featuring participation from both Year 01 and Year 02 students. This round focused on more advanced topics, including probability techniques, counting methods, permutations and combinations, descriptive statistics, set theory, and inference for senior participants. The Wizards Round emphasized problem-solving depth and creative application of statistical knowledge, further elevating the competitive spirit.
The competition continued with the Sorcerers Round, conducted on 27th November 2025 at A4 202 (MIT Building). As the next progressive phase of Stat Bee 2.0, this round pushed participants to demonstrate higher-order thinking, precision, and strategic reasoning under pressure.
Overall, Stat Bee 2.0 has proven to be a valuable academic initiative, promoting collaboration, healthy competition, and a deeper appreciation for statistics. The department commends the organizers and participants for their commitment and looks forward to future rounds that continue to inspire statistical excellence.
